mission is to eradicate stigma, advocate for treatment and recovery,
and build community accountability for people whose lives are
impacted by the devastating effects of mental illness. We respect
religious, and sexual diversity while supporting lifelong dignity and
the wellness and recovery of individuals with lived experience, their
allies and families.
Thousands of people in Alameda County have a relative or loved one with a serious mental illness-a child, spouse, parent or sibling. Others have a close friend who is mentally ill. Many of these families and friends have joined together as NAMI Alameda County to provide mutual support and information, and to work together for changes in the mental health system.
NAMI Alameda County is affiliated with NAMI California and NAMI National. What is now NAMI Alameda County grew out of a families support and advocacy group formed in June of 1977 by the Mental Health Association of Alameda County.
